Sustainable Future sells a variety of solar electric equipment. We understand that choosing photovoltaics can be a complex process involving many decisions and products to choose from. We're here to help with this process. We have experience helping our customers choose the right location, and the right mounting hardware for their panels. We are also knowledgeable about current incentive programs that are available to renewable energy generators.
We Will Design & Build a Solar Electric System to Fit Your Needs
We will help you design a PV System that will meet your specific needs. Some of the initial considerations involved in the design process include the following:
Determining the best location for your photovoltaic panels with a solar PV site evaluation. Our staff will use a Solar Pathfinder and work with you to determine the best location based on your specific site and individual needs.
- Should you have a Pole mount or roof mount system? There are pros and cons to each of these decisions. Pole mount panels can use tracking systems to increase efficiency. Roof mounted panels are generally fixed, but can be more aesthetically pleasing, and are out of the way.
- If you want to mount your PV panels on your roof, how should you mount them? You will want to consider whether to mount them flush with the roofline and possibly reduce efficiency, or mount them at the ideal angle.
- Grid-tie or off-grid? Do you want to be connected to the utility grid? If so, a grid-tie system is for you. One of the pros of this type of system is TVA's Green Power Switch program (for TVA customers). Under this program, you can sell green power back to your utility company. One of the cons of a grid tie system is that if the utility grid goes down, your power goes down too. Off-grid systems are generally more expensive (due to the added cost of battery backups); however they can be practical in remote areas where utility service is currently unavailable and would be prohibitively expensive.
- How many panels do you need? This depends upon the energy consumption of your home or business. We recommend getting your home as efficient as possible by increasing insulation, changing to Energy Star appliances, and creating energy efficient habits. We can help with this process before making your solar investment, and then guide you through the decisions to determine what size PV system is right for you.
