Here are some NO COST ways to reduce the amount of energy you use:

1. Turn off lights that are not in use.
2. On cold days that are sunny, open your shades and curtains to let the sun help heat your home.
3. Close shades and curtains during the hottest part of the day.
4. During the summer open your windows at night and allow the cool air in. Then in the morning, close up the house again.
5. Make sure to close all doors and windows if the heat or air is on.
6. Set up a clothes line and let sheets, towels, and clothes air dry.
7. Keep the coils on your refrigerator clean. 
8. Know what you need out of the refrigerator, so you can limit the amount of time it stays open.
9. Turn the temperature down on your water heater.
10. Wash laundry in cold water.

Here are a some LOW COST ways:

1. Install a Programmable Thermostat, set to Summer 78, Winter 68.
2. Caulk where drafts are. Look for spiderwebs around baseboards, doors, and windows. Spiders build webs where there is a draft.
3. Fix all water leaks.
4. Plant trees to shade your home and bushes to shade your air conditioning unit.
5. Change air filters as directed.
6. Buy a water saving shower head. They provide plenty of water pressure. 
7. Replace burned out lightbulbs with compact florescent bulbs.
8. Insulate your hot water tank.
9. Weather strip doors if necessary.
