Creating a Sustainable Future
A sustainable future is one in which resources are used at a rate equal to or less than the rate at which they are created. Resources include money, energy, soil, emotional capital, trust, health, clean water, or anything else needed to sustain life. No resource can be consumed indefinitely at a rate faster than it is being replenished.
The first step in creating a sustainable future is to create a desire for a sustainable future.
Educating People About Sustainable Living
The desire to live in a sustainable manner comes from the awareness of the consequences of not living in a sustainable manner. If we look at societies that have disappeared, some have vanished because they were unaware of the principles of creating a sustainable future. Jared Diamond's book "Collapse" gives a very well researched and long term historical perspective of societies that chose well and those that did not. While his book does not use the phrase sustainable future, he captures its essence. There is another reason some are drawn toward sustainable choices: they bring great freedom. If one chooses a grass for their lawn that requires more water than the rain provides, they have also chosen to commit time and money to water the lawn. Choosing a grass for the lawn that can thrive in the existing soil and naturally available rain frees one to do other things. This is just one of many simple ways we can start freeing our lives by making sustainable choices.
Offering and Promoting Products That Support Sustainable Living
Once decided to strive for sustainability, one must then decide how. From a sustainable point of view you are usually better off meeting a need without buying anything. If you feel a need can only be met by buying a product, then Sustainable Future is here to provide those products or help you find them.
