After David Bolt and partners sold their national software development company he turned his interest to products and services that would provide a more sustainable lifestyle preserving our Earth and resources. Out of these interests David founded Sustainable Future in 2005. Economics, pollution, and global warming lead Bolt and the company to focus on Energy Reduction and Solar Energy Applications for producing electricity and hot water applications. Much of his early experience came from volunteer work with local scientists in the East Tennessee community through Knoxville's Habitat for Humanity. During this learning experience they combined the study and application of building science techniques, experimented with energy conservation techniques, and created low energy use homes to help low to moderate income families.

This collective experience inspired David to engineer a Net Zero Energy home utilizing energy conservation methods and energy production through solar PV and solar thermal. After one year of applying deep retro fits to a family summer home, David moved into the retro-fitted home to put his techniques to the test. After a few more tweaks he accomplished his goal. When his family of four joined him in the house, more adjustments were made so that over the course of the year the home creates as much electricity as it consumes. Through David's persistence in continual improvements, the family actually achieved and maintains a negative utility bill.

Today, Sustainable Future has taken Mr. Bolt’s personal experiences and applied them to a commercially successful company. Design and Installation of Solar Photovoltaic Systems is our area of expertise. With two NABCEP staff members and the industry leaders as consultants we deliver a professional well designed PV system. 

Projects have ranged from 1 kW off grid systems for rural cabins to large 30 kW PV systems on the roof of commercial businesses. The collective experience of 40 different job sites culminates in over 330 kW's of Solar Panels installed.
